The integration of Iberdrola and ScottishPower on April 23 2007 created a Group that is one of the largest electricity groups in Europe with an enterprise value of around €80 billion, a presence in more than 30 countries and 22 million points of supply. The new Group is also the world’s number one renewable energy operator with 7,000 MW of installed capacity and a pipeline of more than 38,000 MW. In the UK, ScottishPower provides electricity transmission and distribution services and is its third largest distribution company; it supplies 5.2m customers with electricity and gas services; it operates electricity generating stations and gas storage facilities; and undertakes associated energy management activities. It is promoting energy security through investing in over £3bn in UK generation and electricity networks over the next 5 years. It is committed to low carbon generation, through establishing itself as the UK’s largest windfarm developer, with 17% of the UK’s installed capacity, and investing in biomass co-firing, steam turbine upgrades and clean coal technology at its fossil fuel power stations. It is also pursuing its options for further reductions in carbon emissions through working with industry and academic partners on a number of carbon capture and storage development projects. ScottishPower Energy Wholesale is focused on delivering competitive energy from across its portfolio assets through operating and maintaining its generating portfolio; the wholesale trading of power, gas, coal and other commodities; and the origination of enhancing opportunities for the business, including bespoke energy contracts, asset acquisitions and asset developments.
