Nexen is a Canadian based independent global energy company with oil and gas
assets in Canada, the Gulf of Mexico, the U.K. North Sea, Yemen, West Africa
and Columbia. In the U.K. Nexen operates the Scott, Telford and Buzzard oilfields
along with a number of smaller developments and exploration licenses. It is
a leading player in Coal Bed Methane (CBM) in Canada and has recently acquired
CBM prospective onshore acreage in the U.K. In addition to developing a CBM
business in the U.K. Nexen is interested in exploring the potential of CO2
sequestration in Coal. This could provide a dual benefit of enhancing CBM
production and providing permanent storage for CO2. As a North Sea oilfield
Operator Nexen is also interested in the potential of Enhanced Oil Recovery
through CO2 storage in depleted hydrocarbon fields offshore.
