E.ON is the UK’s largest integrated power and gas company. We are one of the UK’s leading energy suppliers, supplying electricity, gas and Home Energy Services to around six million residential, small business, and industrial and commercial customers. We’re involved in every link of the energy chain, creating and generating power for a low carbon future. We’re the second largest electricity generator and own the second largest distribution network in the UK. We’re a leading green generator with 20 operational wind farms and an extensive biomass co-firing programme. We’re also building the UK’s largest dedicated biomass power station at Steven’s Croft near Lockerbie. Power Technology is the centre of engineering and technology within E.ON UK. We’re committed to supporting and developing clean energy technologies and are investing in a major low carbon R&D programme. Our current projects include: • Prototype plants in Europe and Canada to improve understanding of the practical implications of using an amine capture process for post-combustion removal of CO2 from power station flue gases. • Adding oxyfuel combustion capability to our 1MW test rig to help demonstrate how CO2 emissions can be captured facilitating long terms storage issues. • Developing advanced thermodynamic modelling software to pinpoint the optimum balance between increasing CO2 capture efficiency and maintaining plant generation efficiency. In partnership with government, the EU, international scientific organisations, companies and universities worldwide, our research programme will accelerate the understanding of the current and future technology options for a low carbon economy and help deliver the cleaner power industry of the future.
