Aker Clean Carbon is a global supplier of cost-effective CO2 capture plants and technology. The Norwegian company offers amine-based capture solutions for coal, gas & bio power, cement industry and other industrial flue gases. Aker Clean Carbon is a technology focused company with expertise within flue gas handling.

The company is leading one the largest CCS R&D programmes in Europe together with research and industrial partners. The programme includes a new test rig being in operation. The company has also built its own mobile test unit for CO2 capture, which has been in operation on both natural gas and coal fired power stations since 2008. Aker Clean Carbon has been awarded the contract to supply the amine plant for Technology Centre Mongstad, Norway. The plant capture capacity is 78 000 tonnes CO2 per annum and will be in operation from 2011. Aker Clean Carbon is engaged in several large scale CCS demonstration projects, including UK Competition.

Aker Clean Carbon was established by Aker and Aker Solutions in 2007 as a vehicle to accelerate and commercialise CCS management. The company’s origins lie in Aker Solutions, where engineers have worked on carbon capture technology since the early 1990s. Aker Clean Carbon is owned 50 percent by Aker and 50 percent by Aker Solutions. The company is investing substantially in developing its own capture technology.

The company is part of Aker, a Norwegian industrial holding company with more than 35 000 employees and operations in 35 countries within the power and energy, maritime, seafood and marine biotech industries. The company controls a handful of Aker companies, including Aker Solutions, a leading global supplier of technology and services to the process and energy industries.
